Food Bank of Delaware kicks off Thanksgiving For All food drive

October 5, 2017

It’s hard to believe, but another holiday season is right around the corner! We kicked off our annual Thanksgiving For All food and funds drive this week. The community’s assistance is needed to collect food items and monetary donations in order to create 2,500 Thanksgiving meal boxes for Delaware families in need.

Individuals, neighborhoods, businesses, schools, faith-based organizations and other community groups are encouraged to organize food drives throughout the holiday season. Food for the Thanksgiving boxes must be received by Friday, November 3. Holiday food received after that time will be distributed to the Food Bank’s network of Hunger-Relief Program Partners.

The following items are needed:

  • Canned sweet potatoes
  • Canned peas
  • Canned corn
  • Evaporated milk
  • Canned pumpkin
  • Applesauce
  • Coffee/tea bags
  • Corn muffin mix
  • Canned gravy
  • Mashed potatoes
  • Graham cracker crust
  • Turkey pan
  • Frozen turkeys (must be dropped off to Newark or Milford warehouses)

Those who collect more than 20 boxes/bags of donated food may make arrangements with the Food Bank of Delaware to have donations picked up. In an effort to save money on transportation costs, the Food Bank asks that donations of fewer than 20 bags/boxes be dropped off at the organization’s Newark or Milford facilities:
