Delaware Does More, an initiative administered by United Way of Delaware and the Food
Bank of Delaware, announced that AstraZeneca has donated $100,000 to the Winter
2009-2010 Delaware Does More program, with $50,000 allocated to Way of Delaware for
emergency utility and shelter assistance and $50,000 to the Food Bank of Delaware for
additional food supplies.
AstraZeneca’s support of Delaware Does More began last year when the company
joined the community partnership of local nonprofits, businesses, schools, faith-based
organizations and others to help Delawareans with immediate needs for assistance
with shelter, utilities, and food.
“It is good to know that we can rely on the continued generosity of global companies,
ike AstraZeneca, who want to give back to the local community,” says Michelle A. Taylor,
President and CEO of United Way of Delaware. “The harsh winter weather we are already
experiencing is making housing and utility assistance even more critical.”
“We started Delaware Does More in Winter 2008, when the Food Bank and United Way of Delaware began to feel the effects of the failing economy and received an unprecedented demand for help meeting basic needs,” says Patricia D. Beebe, President and CEO of Food Bank of Delaware. “We are grateful for support from partner organizations, such as AstraZeneca, who are helping us surpass the goal of $100,000 and 400,000 pounds of food collected this winter.”
“We are proud to make this gift to such a worthwhile initiative,” says Tyrone Jones, Director of Corporate Community Alliances. “It is important that we make financial contributions, but also encourage volunteerism among our employees. United Way of Delaware and the Food Bank of Delaware are great examples of giving in action.”
