The Food Bank of Delaware and United Way of Delaware report that they are
56,747 pounds shy of meeting their 400,000 pound food goal for Delaware Does
More, their winter-long giving campaign. The campaign officially ends on February
28, 2010.
“Last week the Food Bank of Delaware released some very startling statistics
about the amount of Delawareans in need of food assistance,” said Food Bank of
Delaware President and CEO, Patricia Beebe. “In 2006 we provided 88,400
Delawareans with emergency food assistance, today, 241,600 Delawareans are
now depending on these services. It’s alarming that we have more than 50,000
pounds of food left to collect with almost two weeks remaining in our campaign.”
To help meet the 400,000 pound goal and to address the significant increases in demand, the Food Bank of Delaware urges businesses, individuals, faith- and community-based organizations, schools and others to get involved by holding emergency food drives. In addition, nonperishable goods can be dropped off at the Food Bank’s warehouses in Newark and Milford, Del., Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
The Food Bank of Delaware is currently in need of:
- Canned fruits and vegetables
- Canned soups
- Canned tuna fish
- Canned meats
- Peanut butter
- Pasta and pasta sauce
- Goya-brand products
- Hot and cold cereals
