Seth Alexander graduated from The Culinary School on January 8, 2015 and has been on the track to success ever since.

Before enrolling in The Culinary School, Seth was cooking, but not at the level he wanted to be on. The only way he felt he could get there was by going to school to get proper training.

Iskeisha Stuckey, a former Food Bank of Delaware employee and a friend, told Seth about the culinary training program at the Food Bank. He decided to apply and has not looked back.

Seth graduated from The Culinary School with a 98 average.

While the kitchen skills he learned were important, Seth says the life skills were incredibly valuable.

“We learned activities that everyone uses every day,” he said. “It gave me a tool base to work with in the real world.”

He is now a cook at the Chase Center on the Riverfront, and loves it. This summer he will be grilling at a crab grill and hopes to get his own catering business off the ground after his wedding in June.

Seth has big plans for his career and in five years hopes to have his own business.

“I do not just want to have a business, I want an established business that is thriving,” he said.

For now, Seth continues to practice his craft and encourages others to pursue careers in the food service industry, especially kids and young adults struggling in inner cities.

“I know what it’s like. I was there, but everyone can make a change; they just have to get out and try,” he said.

Seth credits The Culinary School for being the strong foundation that helped build him.

“To build a house you have to do it brick by brick, let the Food Bank be one of those bricks,” he said.
