Food Bank offers upscale corporate catering options

June 6, 2022

For most people, the word catering is typically associated with businesses who set up and serve party fare – maybe at a wedding reception or graduation party, but the Food Bank of Delaware now offers streamlined, more corporate catering options to benefit scholarships for our Culinary School students.

The man who works behind the scenes to plan and create these menus is Executive Production Chef Joe Woomer. He brings a lifetime of kitchen experience, mostly in the corporate world, to offer enticing gourmet options through our Discover Café, to corporate clients, and for our own fund-raising events.

Chef Woomer, who joined the Food Bank staff in September, brought not only experience in hotel, restaurant, and hospital kitchens, but also in the corporate worlds of Bethlehem Steel, DuPont, and Vanguard.

Once on board, he planned the menu for our sold-out successful Forks on the Farm Dinner in the fall and reopened the Discover Café at our Newark site in October. The café provides grab-and-go selections that include a daily fresh soup plus specialty sandwiches, salads and sides.

“We are trying to bring in a more upscale type of menu to serve our guest and catering partners,” Chef Woomer said.

Visit www.fbd.org/catering to view our menu for your catering needs, ranging from bagels for breakfast, deli platters and boxed lunches or gourmet sandwiches for lunch with cookies and brownies available for dessert.  “We’re trying to sell the menu to corporate clients. We don’t have the staff to serve, but we can build a custom menu,” he added.

Most of the current catering clients pick up their orders, but delivery is available for a fee. “People are unaware of the culinary capabilities we have here at the Food Bank,” Chef Woomer explained.

Orders can be placed by reaching out to Chef Woomer at (302) 293-1305 ext 255 or jwoomer@fbd.org.
