Q: Do I need to sign up in advance?

A: Yes, volunteers must schedule their time. They cannot volunteer without scheduling in advance – we schedule activities and staff based on the number of volunteers coming in.

Q: How do I schedule myself or a group to volunteer?

A: Visit our online scheduling site, www.fbd.volunteerhub.com, or contact Aaron Stone at volunteer@fbd.org or (302) 393-2011. Please include the date and time you are interested in coming in and how many people are in your group.

Q: Can my child volunteer?

A: Yes, we encourage children to participate. Minimum ages vary by task. Volunteers must be at least seven years old and accompanied by an adult.

Q: What do I do if I need to cancel?

A: We understand that things come up that require you to cancel. Please email the volunteer coordinator as soon as possible to cancel and reschedule. This is especially important if a large group is expected.

Q: Am I required to make a long-term commitment?

A: Your commitment depends on the activity or project you undertake. We do not need an ongoing commitment for sorting donated groceries, repacking food or working in our pantries.

Q: Where are you located?

A: We have two locations – In New Castle County we are located at 222 Lake Drive in Newark and in Kent and Sussex Counties we are located at 1040 Mattlind Way in Milford.

Q: I am in need of volunteer hours for school or community service. What are considered verifiable hours?

A: In order for the Food Bank of Delaware to verify your hours for school or other reasons, the volunteer hours must take place at a Food Bank of Delaware sponsored activity or event (either or off-site). We cannot verify hours for activities where a Food Bank of Delaware staff member is not present.
