Volunteers are needed in both Newark and Milford to mentor students currently enrolled in The Culinary School. A background in the culinary field is a plus, but not required. The purpose of the mentoring relationship is to provide another source of individualized support to students. The goal of the mentorship program is to help increase retention, graduation, and employment rates through the development of personalized professional relationship between each student and a volunteer mentor who can offer encouragement, advice, or just a listening ear through the challenges and victories the student may face in his or her time in training, and beyond.
Mentors are asked to give approximately one hour each week to meet one-on-one with students for the duration of 14 week program, between the hours of 9:30am-3:00pm. To apply to be a mentor, please contact Wes Chandler, Volunteer Coordinator, at wchandler@fbd.org. In addition to a mentoring application, all mentors must successfully complete background check and drug screening to participate.
