Volunteer Spotlight: Amber

If there is anything the Food Bank of Delaware is missing, it is certainly not dedicated volunteers. We are lucky to have people in our community who just want to help others and give back. Amber Davis is one of those people. Though Amber has only been volunteering at the Food Bank for roughly four months, she has already made an impression.
Amber found out about the Food Bank in 2023 when her son was able to participate in The Kitchen School culinary training program. One day she saw that we were looking for volunteers and decided to help.
Amber says, “I love coming in, because I can see the people come through, and some of them are so thankful. A couple people have said they’re going to be in tears. I’m like, ‘Oh please don’t, because then I would start.’”
When you see the impact on others, it’s quite easy to get emotional. Amber goes on to add, “You know, sometimes it just takes one person and you think about them. It makes your day. It makes you feel good.”
Amber was disheartened to see that people’s food assistance was being cut back. It inspired her to get involved.
Her advice to others considering volunteering, “Just do it. Just try it. It’s rewarding. It makes you feel good because you make someone else feel good.”
