Food Bank of Delaware Unveils New Solar Array at Milford Facility

The Food Bank of Delaware celebrated the completion of a new rooftop solar array at its Milford facility, an investment in sustainability that will reduce operating costs while helping the organization provide more food and services to Delawareans facing hunger.

Made possible through a $1,017,000 grant from Energize Delaware, the new system features 719 rooftop solar panels and is expected to generate approximately 546,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. The array is projected to offset approximately 60% of the Milford facility’s annual electricity usage, resulting in an estimated $37,342.92 in annual utility savings. Over the life of the system, those savings are expected to exceed $2 million.

For the Food Bank of Delaware, every dollar saved on operating expenses is another dollar that can be invested directly into serving the community through food distribution, workforce development, nutrition education and other programs that help Delawareans build stronger, healthier futures.

The solar project reflects a shared commitment to environmental stewardship and strengthening communities across Delaware.

The rooftop solar array was designed and installed by CMI Solar & Electric, which specializes in commercial renewable energy solutions.
