Produce for Delawareans

Produce donations to the Food Bank of Delaware, enable us to distribute fresh, local produce to Delawareans in need! We often hear from community members who indicate that accessing fresh produce is most difficult. Your donations help us get nutritious foods to those who need it most!

To ensure food safety, please be sure to follow these produce donation guidelines:

• Wash hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and hot water before handling produce.
• Donate only good quality, fresh produce.
• Please do not place fresh produce in trash bags when donating. Trash bags are not graded for food and cause chemicals to leach into the food.
• Don’t donate produce that has signs of mold, spoilage, bruising or insects. Don’t donate produce you wouldn’t buy or feed to your family.
• If pesticides were used on the product, be absolutely certain that you have followed the instructions on the pesticide label for application and safe harvest times. If you are unsure, discard the produce in the garbage—do not compost, eat or donate it.
• Brush off as much mud and soil as possible from the produce.
• Don’t mix produce types. Separate each produce type into its own clean food-grade container or bag.
