Join us in the Kitchen this Summer!

This class takes place from July 6, 2026 – August 14, 2026 at the Food Bank of Delaware in Newark and Milford. Classes take place Monday-Thursday from 10:00 a.m. – 12 noon

About the Class
Our career exploration program is a structured cooking class designed for teens and young adults with disabilities that integrates workplace readiness and life skills. Students engage in interactive culinary lessons that focus on basic food preparation techniques while reinforcing job-related behaviors such as following directions, time management, and teamwork.

Requirements

  • Proof of school enrollment
  • Age 16- 22 and Delaware resident
  • Documented disability

Class Highlights

Culinary Skills Training:

  • Kitchen safety and sanitation
  • Introductory baking techniques
  • Preparing basic recipes
  • Food storage, handling and packaging
  • Table-setting

Workplace Readiness and Life Skills:

  • Daily routines that emphasize punctuality, responsibility and teamwork
  • Activities focused on culinary-related soft skills and real-world job behaviors
  • Basic life skills incorporated through food prep and customer-service oriented activities
