Summer volunteers needed at Food Bank of Delaware in Milford

June 12, 2025

Summer time and the living is easy? Maybe in song lyrics, but not for families who rely on free or reduced-priced meals during the school year.

With schools closed for summer break, thousands of Delaware children lose access to free or reduced-price meals, placing additional strain on already tight food budgets.

To help meet summer needs, the Food Bank is actively recruiting volunteers to assist in its Milford facility. Individuals and groups are welcome.

“Summer can be a stressful time for families who rely on school meals to help keep their children nourished,” said Food Bank of Delaware President and CEO Cathy Kanefsky. “We simply cannot do this work without our incredible volunteers. Whether you have a few hours to spare or are looking to make a consistent impact, we welcome your help.”

Volunteer Opportunities:

  • Volunteer Room – Sort donations, build meal kits, package produce, and more. Perfect for individuals, co-workers, civic groups, or friends.
  • Healthy Pantry Center – Help neighbors as they select groceries. Volunteers also restock shelves and create a welcoming experience.
  • Garden – Lend a hand in the 3.5-acre garden! Assist with weeding, harvesting, washing, and packing fresh produce that goes directly to the food pantry.
