7th annual gala will help feed children

November 25, 2019

Thanks to the generosity of the Harry K Foundation, two new school pantries opened recently:  one in the Charlton School – Caesar Rodney School District – and the other in Milton Elementary School – Cape Henlopen School District. That brings the total to 44 Harry K-sponsored pantries statewide in partnership with the Food Bank of Delaware.

The pantries assist families of the 1 in 6 children in Delaware living with food insecurity by providing access to emergency shelf-stable food during school hours.

The Harry K Foundation also funds our Backpack Program. Through the Backpack Program, children at risk of hunger over the weekends and during holiday school breaks, receive a bag full of food that is deposited discreetly into their bags for enjoyment at home. Bags include shelf-stable food that is nutritious and easy for kids to prepare with limited supervision.

Funding for these important programs come from people supporting the Harry K Foundation at events, such as the Dec. 14 Gala at Rehoboth Country Club (pictured to the right is some members of the Food Bank team at a past Harry K gala). The 7th annual charity ball, featuring live music, dinner and open bar, live and silent auctions, celebrates generosity. Tickets for the black-tie affair at $250 each are available at 302-226-0675.
