Croda’s Longstanding Partnership with the Food Bank of Delaware Highlights its Culture of Community Engagement

September 1, 2023

Croda, a sustainable manufacturer with 24 principal manufacturing sites across the globe, fosters a culture of community engagement and volunteerism. Here in Delaware, we see this commitment through Croda’s long-standing partnership with the Food Bank of Delaware.

For nearly two decades, Croda has operated the Atlas Point facility located at the base of the Delaware Memorial Bridge in New Castle. Croda’s Atlas Point facility manufactures specialty ingredients used in a wide range of products from personal care items and cleaning products to life-saving pharmaceuticals and crop care items.

With a long-standing commitment to giving back, the Atlas Point team focuses on how they can best assist the communities they operate in.

“We support our community in multiple ways,” explains Croda’s community engagement coordinator Sana Bell. “Sometimes we help by providing volunteers and other times we provide resources. With the Food Bank, we do both.”

Annually, Croda contributes employee volunteers and funding for several New Castle mobile pantries each year. At a mobile pantry, a Food Bank truck brings shelf-stable and fresh food; beverages; dairy items; and personal products (when available) to a designated site like a community center or library. On the day of the mobile food pantry events, volunteers like the employees at Croda’s Atlas Point facility help by loading these items into recipient cars.

Helping neighbors through food pantries provided yet another opportunity for Croda to engage in community conversations. Bell is big on asking, “What can we help with?” rather than making assumptions. Through these conversations, along with discussions with Croda’s Community Advisory Council, and other community meetings, she learned that in addition to food insecurity, neighbors are also concerned about educational opportunities. The company has used this feedback to steer engagement efforts in hopes of being able to make a positive impact. In addition to its work with the Food Bank of Delaware, Croda Atlas Point is growing strong partnerships with the Colonial School District and the Rose Hill Community Center.
