Culinary students to cater Accelerate Delaware launch party

May 6, 2016

A major component of our 14-week training program, The Culinary School, is to provide students with hands-on experience to prepare them for employment in the food service.

Next Saturday night, they’ll get just that.

Students from the Newark class will cater next weekend’s Accelerate Delaware launch party. The big evening takes place on Saturday, May 14 from 7:00 p.m. – 12:00 midnight at the Community Education Building in Wilmington; organizers expect more than 150 guests.

Students have planned a delicious menu consisting of hors d’oeuvres, dinner and dessert! Guests can expect to see charcuterie and cheese boards, bruschetta, roasted vegetables, assorted bread, crab, artichoke and spinach dip, and chicken satay skewers with a peanut sauce – and these are just the starters!

For the main course: marinated grilled flank steak with a hunter sauce, gluten-free chicken marsala and Jamaican-style veggie patty with mango salsa!

And don’t forget dessert…

“We are proud to partner with Accelerate Delaware on this event,” said Food Bank of Delaware President and CEO Patricia Beebe. “We have a group of talented students who look forward to the opportunity to show off their newly-developed skills. The Food Bank of Delaware is committed to supporting initiatives like this that make our state a better place to work and live.”

The cost to attend the evening event is $40. In addition to dinner, the evening will feature a beer and wine bar, music from DJ AKTIVE (DJ for national artists like Kanye West, Janet Jackson, Miley Cyrus and others) and networking with Delaware leaders.

The goal of the evening is to get Delaware’s business leaders and young professionals from across a wide variety of industries in one room to celebrate an organization whose core mission is to engage the next generation of leaders in Delaware by accelerating their professional and social journey in the state.

Accelerate Delaware is incubated within The Longwood Foundation.  It began as an idea in 2014 and formally launched in 2016.  Its goal is to develop and implement a strategy for increasing the percentage of talented young professionals who choose to build their careers and lives in Delaware.

The organization is working to engage the next generation of leaders in Delaware to accelerate them into greater professional roles while connecting them socially and professionally to local companies, non profits and government entities to enhance professional growth and personal enrichment. Its primary focus is to target and engage the millennial population through three tracks: Social Connection, Professional Networking and Executive Development.
