Milford Healthy Pantry Center helps Kent and Sussex County residents

December 2, 2019

Sarah, a Felton resident, needed a little help. She has almost recovered from a workplace injury, one that meant she was unable to work as a CNA in a nursing home. Accompanied by her 3-year-old son, she sought emergency food assistance at the Healthy Pantry Center at the Food Bank of Delaware’s Milford site.

“I am not completely out, but I’m going to be,” she said as she was filling out the necessary paperwork. Sarah said she’s starting back to work soon, but she will not be working at a nursing home. “I have to be where I can do less,” she explained.

Between 25 and 40 people each day are seeking emergency food health from the Food Bank’s Milford location, said Lisa Gibbs, Milford’s SNAP Outreach Coordinator.  Applicants are also referred to additional services, including Delaware Helpline 211 and $tand by Me for financial counseling.
