Organizations invited to build structures out of food for Food Bank of Delaware CANgineering competition

March 20, 2024

The deadline to register to participate in the Food Bank of Delaware’s food structure building competition, CANgineering, is Friday, April 26.

CANgineering supports the year-round hunger relief efforts of the Food Bank of Delaware. Last year, 21 teams competed and collected more than 33,000 pounds of food. With high costs due to inflation, more Delawareans are turning to the Food Bank of Delaware and its network of partners for assistance.

CANgineering was created in 2011 as a fun way to bolster food donations, while encouraging spirited competition amongst local organizations. Teams sign up, hold a food drive and use the items they have collected to create structures. Over the years, teams have built lighthouses, replicas of the Food Bank of Delaware facility, forklifts, trucks, trees, butterflies and more.

“I cannot wait to see what Delaware organizations come up with this year,” said Food Bank of Delaware President and CEO Cathy Kanefsky. “I am always blown away by the creativity. For us, this is a fun way to not only engage our community, but also collect food for our neighbors in need. Unfortunately, the demand for our services has not decreased. The high cost of living across the board has impacted so many in our community.”
