Sam’s Club’s generosity provides quality, quantity food

At the Food Bank of Delaware, we’re very thankful for all our partners – like Sam’s Club – who support our mission to eradicate hunger in the communities we serve. In fact, our neighbors benefit from the store’s twice weekly donations to our warehouses.

Kayla Montgomery, general manager at the Sam’s Club is Dover, is proud to be a part of that long-time commitment. “Walmart and Sam’s Club have a zero-waste initiative [policy], and we make sure we give back. It’s a big part of our corporate culture. It cuts down on our carbon footprint.”

Montgomery notes that products included in Sam’s Club donations are fresh and healthy. “It’s not bad to consume. We have to pull that item to make way for new shipments – produce, dairy, poultry,” she said.

As she said, these large donations are part of the corporate culture. “We are part of the community. I’ve been with the company for 10 years, and we build relationships and volunteer, too, not just with the Food Bank, but also with Habitat for Humanity and Children’s Miracle Network.”

Food Bank of Delaware Director of Food Acquisition Zach Kellerman, is also grateful – not only for the quantity, but also for the quality – of these donations. Fresh produce and protein are just what our neighbors want and need. “It’s perishable, fresh products,” he said, adding that Sam’s Club is the Food Bank’s largest donor.

Typically, these fresh products are placed on the shelves – including refrigerators and freezers – in our Healthy Pantry Center, or delivered to our agency partners or a mobile pantry for distribution for our neighbors who live with food insecurity.

Thank you, Sam’s Club, for your generosity!
