Young mom, cancer survivor expresses gratitude for home delivery service

Like most of the people we serve, Dover resident Ellen is very grateful for the Food Bank of Delaware’s home delivery service. This mother of two – ages 3 and 11 – is unable to work; she’s a cancer survivor, and she’s also unable to drive.

She struggles to provide enough food for her young family on a limited income, but she found support from a Facebook group focused on eating on a budget. And that’s where she learned about the Food Bank of Delaware. Ellen visited our web site, www.fbd.org, and found out about our mass distribution sites. However, she knew she had no transportation to Dover Motor Speedway to pick up a food box.

“At first, I didn’t see the link to the delivery service, but when I followed the links it really made my day,” Ellen said. Her youngest child is autistic and is able to receive her therapy through equally convenient home visits.

Every Wednesday, her food box is delivered to her door, and she’s thankful. “It helps,” she said. “Every little bit helps.”
