April Employee of the Month: Erika Strobel
April 22, 2026
Erika Strobel may work behind the scenes at our Newark site, but in the six and a half years she’s been part of the Food Bank of Delaware team, she’s become essential to supporting our partners and fostering a positive workplace — starting long before the Fun and Wellness Committees even existed.
For Erika, those contributions are all about encouraging and uplifting others in the shared mission to serve neighbors in need. “I could see the hard work we do here, and I believe you have to enjoy what you do. Hunger is a tough thing, so it’s good to take five or 10 minutes during the day for a little fun—a game,” she said.
While Erika’s current role falls within the Finance Department, her work reflects a strong commitment to customer service. She collaborates closely with our pantry partners, helping them complete necessary reports and forms accurately and on time. Her Employee of the Month nomination notes that she “consistently goes above and beyond,” highlighting her “diligence, teamwork, and positive spirit.”
Erika finds deep meaning in this work. “I know I’m making a difference to help others, and that just feels good. I have always wanted to build others up. I like knowing I’m doing something good for somebody. It’s a really good feeling to give back to the community,” she shared.
She also values the people she works with at the Food Bank. “It’s a great group of people, and enjoying the people you work with is really important,” she added.
Erika especially appreciates the opportunity to support pantry partners. “They are dedicated and passionate. It’s easy to help them move forward—to help them help the community.”
Outside of work, Erika dedicates her time to dog rescue. She volunteers with Renee’s Rescue, fostering dogs—including hospice cases. “Animals are my heart,” she said. She also enjoys tending to the koi pond at her home, crafting, and photography. “I do a ton of crafts, and I love photography.”
“I’m grateful to be here… good work with good people, like Cathy’s T-shirt says.”
