If you are 18 years or older with a high school diploma or GED, if you can pass a criminal background check and random drug tests, and if you are in good health, then you are eligible to apply to The Culinary School at the Food Bank of Delaware.

But, you may be thinking… I don’t have the money to pay for classes or uniforms or equipment. I don’t have my own transportation. Who would look after my kids? This is where WONDER (Work Opportunity Networks to Develop Employment Readiness) can help. If you have an open SNAP case on or after Feb. 1, 2016, you are eligible to participate in the WONDER program.

WONDER is a program designed with you in mind. They understand how life can get in the way when you want to work and with WONDER’s intensive case management, they can help you to overcome your challenges and get you started in your new career. With help from WONDER, you will compete 14 weeks of kitchen training, and then receive an additional 25 weeks of employment support services, which includes a two-week paid internship at a business in Delaware!

Trainees will learn basic and high-end kitchen skills, recipe interpretation and development, sauces, nutrition, knife skills, bases, commercial kitchen introduction, dishwashing, safety, inventory, metrics conversion, preparing and cooking meats, pricing/budgeting, and baking.
