LOGIC Alumni Spotlight: Josh Solomon

Sometimes all it takes is a fresh start, an opportunity and someone willing to believe in your potential.

For Josh Solomon, that fresh start began when he moved from Baltimore to Delaware just days before Christmas 2025, hoping to change the direction of his life.

“I just wanted to change my environment,” he explains. “I needed to switch up the people that I was hanging around and everything. I just basically needed a new start.”

Not long after arriving in Delaware, Josh learned about the Food Bank of Delaware’s L.O.G.I.C. (Logistics, Operations, General Warehousing and Inventory Control) through his sister’s pastor. After touring the Food Bank’s Newark facility, he decided it was a good fit and applied.

Thanks to generous sponsors, the L.O.G.I.C. program is offered to community members at no cost. That was a selling point for Josh. “Back home where I’m from, the programs are not free. You have to pay for a lot of the training programs out there.”

At first, he expected to learn basic warehouse skills. What he found was much more.

“I just knew I was going to like it because of the people I was around in class and the people who work here,” he says. “There’s never negative energy here.”

As someone new to Delaware, the program also helped him build a community.

The 14-week program passed quickly as Josh gained new skills and confidence. Along the way, he also received support from the Food Bank team as he worked through personal legal matters.

“I want to actually thank [Food Bank Board Member] Corie [Priest]… He played a big part,” he says.

Josh was determined to make the most of every opportunity. Along with earning all of the required industry certifications, he completed three additional optional certifications in Active Shooter Response, COVID-19 Response and AED/CPR.

“They were optional,” he points out. “I just wanted to get them, because I look at it like, you can never have too many certifications.”

Today, Josh has come full circle. After graduating from the L.O.G.I.C. program, he joined the Food Bank of Delaware as a full-time Warehouse Associate.

Every morning, he’s reminded that he made the right decision.

“I like coming here. I never weke up and say, ‘oh, I don’t want to do this.'”

Looking back, Josh isn’t sure where he’d be if he hadn’t found the program.

“Honestly, I have no idea… Probably just still applying for jobs,” he says.

Like many people with previous legal challenges, Josh says finding employment wasn’t easy. He encourages others in similar situations to never give up.

“I do get shot down a lot because of my background. But don’t let that stop you,” he advises. “I don’t give up. I’ve never been the type of person to give up; even if I feel like everything is against me or certain things just don’t work out, but I look at it like everything happens for me.”

For anyone considering enrolling in the L.O.G.I.C. program, his advice is simple, “Just don’t give up.”

He also encourages future students to embrace every opportunity the program provides, “Whatever the program offers take advantage of it and just give it your all.”

Today, Josh says he’s exactly where he wants to be.
