Agricultural Partner of the Year: Dupont

May 12, 2017

A few weeks ago we hosted our annual dinner and honored nine supporters who have gone above and beyond to support our Creating a Bold Future capital campaign! Over the next several weeks, we will highlight each of our honorees.

Ensuring that low-income Delawareans have access to nutritious, fresh produce is important for a healthy lifestyle.

To increase access to fresh produce and train Delawareans re-entering our community from Delaware’s Department of Corrections, the Food Bank of Delaware will build a three to four-acre production farm on the campus at 222 Lake Drive.

With guidance from a farm manager, paid apprentices will learn the ins and outs of the agricultural industry while developing the soft
skills needed to succeed in any job.

Apprentices will grow food for the Food Bank’s Community Supported Agriculture Program, cafe and other hunger-relief initiatives.

The start up of this farm and exterior space would not be possible without the support of Dupont. Dupont generously donated $250,000 for the exterior space at 222 Lake Drive including the creation of the production farm and a farm stand to sell produce grown straight from the farm.

Dupont’s support aligns with its commitment to addressing issues of food security on both the international and local levels through sustainable agriculture business development and fostering collaboration between businesses, non-profi t organizations and governments.

Most recently, they served as presenting sponsor for the Coming Together conference. As a corporation, Dupont has developed corporate goals to enhance global food security by 2020.
