November 15, 2016

Blue Hen Treats is a local organization run by high school students. They sell dehydrated and baked goods that they prepare in the commercial kitchen of the Belvedere Fire Hall. The students are all volunteers and donate their proceeds back to Delaware nonprofit organizations that are making an impact on the community.

Yesterday, five students from Blue Hen Treats and their business advisor, Charles Falletta, presented the Food Bank of Delaware with a check for $500, proceeds from October sales.

The students made their donation in honor of their friend, Josh Fickes.

Josh’s father, Jerry, a Wilmington firefighter, lost his life battling a fire on September 24. In lieu of flowers, the family, requested donations to the Food Bank of Delaware.

Blue Hen Treats sells a variety of goods including dehydrated apples, pineapples, lemons, zucchini and more!

The business is focused on acquiring fresh, local produce. Milburn Orchards provides locally-grown apples for the endeavor. Blue Hen Treats can be found in Milburn’s farm market and local craft and vendor fairs.
