First-ever Throwing for Hunger Winter Classic a success

January 24, 2018

Thanks to the support of Food Bank of Delaware Board Member Scott Lammers and the Wilmington Cornhole Association, the first-ever Throwing for Hunter Winter Classic held on Saturday, January 20 was a success!

Forty-five teams rounded out the competitive tournament, while 15 teams participated recreationally. Bags started flying at 11:00 a.m. at our future home at 222 Lake Drive. The expansive warehouse was the perfect setting for this indoor tournament.

The first-time event was well received by the more than 120 participants. Many are already looking forward to next year’s tournament.

Cash prizes were awarded to the top teams. They were:

Recreational:
1st Place: Ross and Aaron Whitehead
2nd Place: Joe Langshaw and Jim Baker
3rd Place: Debbie and Blaine Smith

Competitive:
1st Place: Tony Jewel and Jamie Hudson
2nd Place: Alvin and Ivan Miller
3rd Place: Brian Ogle and Jason Wright

“I take great pride in helping our local community and being involved with the Food Bank of Delaware,” said Lammers. “This tournament is just one way for me and many others to participate in an event that allows us to walk away knowing that we provided, in a small way, a helping hand to many Delawareans in need.”
