Partner of the Year: Giant Food

Today we highlight our last honoree of the year – Giant Food! 

Giant has been a consistent force in our efforts to alleviate hunger in Delaware. Not only do they provide food donations, they also support programs financially.

In the past five years, Giant Food and their philanthropic arm, the Our Family Foundation, has donated
$343,444 in support of programs and close to one million pounds of both perishable and nonperishable
food.

In 2012, the retailer stepped up through its Our Family Foundation with a three-year, $300,000 grant to support our summer Grab and Go meal program. Through the program, children at risk of hunger had the opportunity
to pick up an insulated bag with three meals for consumption at home. Each day, the children brought the bag back to be refilled.

Most recently, the Our Family Foundation has recently committed an additional $225,000 to pilot a produce “prescription” program providing funding to host fresh produce distributions at local pediatric offices and the
continuation of our Mobile Summer Meal Service Program for children.

Giant employees on the local store level are always enthusiastic and committed to our vision of a community free of hunger. Twice a year, a large group of Giant associates visits the Food Bank for their annual Thanksgiving
turkey donation and Easter ham donation!
