Partner Spotlight: Latin American Community Center
April 11, 2025
In the heart of Wilmington’s West Side, the Latin American Community Center (LACC) has been a beacon of support for the community’s Latino community for more than five decades. One of its most vital resources is its food pantry, which helps families facing food insecurity access fresh, nutritious food. As a partner agency of the Food Bank of Delaware, the LACC food pantry plays a crucial role in ensuring that no one in the community goes hungry.
Ninoshka Ramirez serves as a Senior Case Manager at the LACC and also runs to food pantry.
“Our families are very grateful,” said Ramirez.
The food pantry serves hundreds of families each month, offering essential items like fresh produce, dairy, protein, and shelf-stable goods.
Many of the individuals who visit the pantry are hardworking parents and seniors on fixed incomes. With high childcare costs and economic uncertainties, many visitors are struggling financially, and the pantry has become a lifeline for those having difficulties making ends meet.
Thanks to its partnership with the Food Bank of Delaware, the LACC is able to stock its pantry with a diverse selection of healthy food. The Food Bank provides fresh fruits and vegetables, dairy products, grains, and proteins, ensuring that families have access to well-balanced meals. The partnership also extends beyond food distribution; the LACC and Food Bank collaborate on nutrition education programs, helping families make the most of the ingredients they receive.
The LACC food pantry is about more than just providing food—it’s about dignity, respect, and community empowerment. Families are welcomed with kindness and treated with care, ensuring they feel supported in their time of need. Additionally, the LACC offers a variety of wraparound services, including housing assistance, financial literacy programs, crisis alleviation, a clothing bank and much more helping families build stability for the future.
