Volunteer Spotlight: Brenden Darji

April 16, 2021

April is Volunteer Appreciation Month! Here at the Food Bank of Delaware, volunteers are the heart and soul of our organization. We couldn’t do what we do without them!

Brenden Darji is a committed and reliable volunteer. He is heading into his third year of volunteering on the farm and has been a huge help to Farm Manager Kyle Brolis and Community Farm Program Coordinator John O’Connor. Brenden can be seen lending a hand at the Food Bank of Delaware at least three days a week.

He has done it all – assisting on the farm, in the volunteer room, farm stand and Healthy Pantry Center.

His favorite thing about volunteering at the Food Bank of Delaware is making new friends. “Everything is just wonderful,” he says.

“Brenden has been a real pleasure to have with us at the Food Bank’s Farm and Volunteer Room,” says Kyle.  “He is kind, hardworking, and has a great sense of humor.  He doesn’t hesitate to assist others and help guide new visitors.  Our daily tasks here on the farm are always changing yet he has remained incredibly flexible and reliable.  We are very grateful for his service and friendship!”

When he isn’t volunteering at the Food Bank, Brenden does landscaping on the side. He says he has learned a lot about farming through his hands-on volunteer experience.

Brenden says the farm team is starting to get busy as they head into the spring/summer growing season.

Volunteers assist with a variety of tasks including planting, weeding, watering, harvesting, farm construction projects, general maintenance and much more.
